The old St. Michael's Cathedral is located in the City of Coventry in the United Kingdom. Citizens were proud of the building until the beginning of World War II. In 1940 the commanders of Nazi Germany ordered a special raid to destroy strategic targets in Coventry. The Luftwaffe pilots bombed its city centre. In one moment the city lost a unique monument of 14th century architecture - the St. Michael's Cathedral. Only one wall survived behind the altar where believers have written - "Father forgive ..."
After the war, the people of Coventry city decided to leave the ruins of the old cathedral intact and build a new one next to it. Years passed and in 1962 the modern Сathedral opened its doors and became a symbol of reconciliation in post-war Britain. It annually attracts thousands of pilgrims and tourists.
This unusual cathedral is filled with light and life and features the work of hundreds of talented artists. A huge tapestry of Christ covers the entire eastern wall and is located above the altar. Another wall is called "Light of God" and is dedicated to the baptism and is made of 195 coloured glass panels. The most amazing place is the western screen-wall which looks out at the ruins of the old cathedral: this wall is made entirely of glass engraved with Saints and Angels, it is a symbol of "The Continuity of Christianity throughout the ages
