Iron bridge – the world's first metal bridge
Living in an era of high technology, we never think of the 18th century – the century of the industrial revolution, at the time, was also the age of rapid technical progress. The industrial revolution began in England and then quickly swept the world. It was here, high on the banks of the gorge of the river Severn, was built the world's first iron bridge (Iron bridge).
Iron bridge, built by renowned architect Abraham Darby III in 1781, was unique in those days: the use of iron is allowed to build a bridge with one span with a length of 30 meters, connecting 2 high Bank; and now loaded barges could pass freely under it.
In our days, Iron bridge and the whole area around us is a monument of the cradle of the industrial revolution, which is under UNESCO protection
